"Admitting defeat is noble, congratulating the winner is beautiful" President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono

With the Real Count by the General Elections Commission (KPU) ready to be announced this afternoon (4pm), the question is not whether Jokowi has won the election or not, but how the opposing candidate will react to these 'news'.

 

Most probably, today will not be the day when Indonesia gets its new president. Instead, Prabowo is expected to deny defeat and appeal to the Supreme Court. What his supporters will (and/or have been told to do) is still uncertain, although the word 'riots' does seem a bit exaggerated (to me anyway).

What I do expect though is traffic to be extra extra bad as the "National Police have prepared a contingency plan in case chaos erupts in the capital city during the announcement of presidential election winner by the General Elections Commissions (KPU)". 

Spanish Embassy in Jakarta did send out an email earlier this morning telling us little Spaniards to avoid getting out on the streets unless 'indispensable'. Just in case, me and Per are leaving the office a couple of hours before the announcement is made - mostly in order to avoid traffic chaos later this evening...

Con el recuento final de la Comision Electoral (KPU) lista para ser presentada al mundo esta tarde (16.00), la pregunta no es si Jokowi ha ganado las elecciones, sino como se tomara esta 'noticia' su oponente Prabowo.

Lo mas probable es que hoy no sea el dia cuando Indonesia consiga su nuevo presidente. En lugar de ello, se espera que Prabowo niegue la derrota y apele a la Corte Suprema. Lo que sus seguidores hagan (o/y hayan sido instruidos a hacer) es aun incierto, aunque la palabra 'disturbios' parece un poco exagerada en tiempos de Ramadan (al menos a mi).

Lo que si espero sin embargo, es que el trafico Yakartino sea extra extra malo esta tarde ya que la "Policía Nacional ha preparado un plan de contingencia en caso de que estalle el caos en la ciudad capital durante el anuncio del ganador de las elecciones presidenciales por la KPU".

La embajada española en Yakarta por su parte, ha enviado un correo electrónico esta mañana a 'la colonia espanyola' diciendo:

"Hoy, día 22 de julio, se anunciarán los resultados oficiales de las elecciones generales celebradas el pasado 9 de julio. Si bien no ha habido avisos de disturbios graves, esta Embajada aconseja extremar las medidas de precaución y evitar desplazamientos que no fueran imprescindibles."

Por si acaso, Per y yo saldremos de la oficina un par de horas antes de que se haga el anuncio - mas que nada para evitar el traficaos que se espera esta tarde...
