The Jakarta Series - The Island of Java

With just over two weeks left in this city it is now time to close this Jakarta blog chapter properly before moving on to other adventures. For this reason, The Jakarta Series are meant to be a last run-through of (some of) the craziness surrounding me. Today Java.

Con poco más de dos semanas en esta ciudad, ha llegado el momento de cerrar el capítulo Yakarta adecuadamente antes de pasar a otras aventuras. Por eso, The Jakarta Series son un último repaso de (parte de) la locura que me rodea. Hoy Java.

- Java is the 5th largest island in Indonesia and 13th largest island in the world.

- With a population of 143 million people and a population density of 1.117/km², Java is the world's most populous island and one of the most densely populated regions in the world. This becomes very obvious when driving around the island *remembering some of our endless road trips to the beach*

- 57% of the Indonesian population lives on the island of Java, with Jakarta being the biggest city on the island and the capital of the country. (More on my hood on the next Jakarta Series).

- There are three main languages spoken on the island; Javanese, Sundanese and Madurese. Still, most of its inhabitants are bilingual as they also speak Indonesian. Also they like to mix expressions from the different languages, making life for us Indonesian language students even more complicated.

- Formed as the result of volcanic eruptions, Java contains a line of 38 mountains along the island which all have at some point in history been active volcanoes. With me not being a hiking kind of gal, most of these have not made it into this blog...

- The island of Java is located in the tropical climate zone right below the equator. With an average temperature of 22 °C to 29 °C and an average humidity of 75% Java is HOT and my weak European hair always FRIZZZY.

- Java es la quinta isla más grande de Indonesia y la 13a isla más grande del mundo.

- Con una población de unos 143 millones de habitantes y una densidad de 1,117 habitantes por km2, Java es la isla más poblada del mundo y una de las regiones más densamente pobladas del mundo. Esto se hace muy evidente cuando se viaja en coche por la isla *recordando algunos de nuestros viajes sin fin a la playa*

- El 57% de la población total de Indonesia vive en la isla de Java, con Yakarta seiendo la ciudad más grande de la isla y la capital del país.

- Enla isla se hablan principalmente tres idiomas; Javanes, Sundanes y Madures. Aún así, la mayoría de los habitantes son bilingües, ya que también hablan el Indonesio. También les gusta mezclar diferentes expresiones de los diferentes idiomas, haciendonos la vida aún más complicada a los que intentamos entender lo que se dice a nuestro alrededor.

- Formada como resultado de varias erupciones volcánicas, Java contiene una línea de 38 montañas a lo largo de la isla, las cuales todas han sido volcanes activos en algun momento de su historia. Siendo yo poco de escalar (lease andar), la mayoría de estos volcanes no han llegado hasta este blog...

- La isla de Java se encuentra en la zona tropical justo debajo del ecuador. Con una temperatura media de 22°C a 29°C y una humedad media del 75%, en Java no solo se suda, tambien se va con unos pelos que dan miedo.
